We are all trying to find a new way to drive traffic to our affiliate websites, that’s because traffic means more potential sales.
There are two types of traffic that you can get:
1. Paid Traffic
2. Free Traffic
Getting paid traffic to your affiliate website might not be a good option for you if you are a beginner or tight on budget.
For beginner affiliates I don’t recommend running paid ad campaigns just yet, this is because advertising should reflect your understanding of how affiliate marketing works.
So people with low affiliate marketing knowledge and skills shouldn’t rush to paid traffic so fast.
Instead you need to make sure that you have a solid affiliate marketing business first.
Free traffic is the best option for beginners and advanced affiliates alike, not just because it is free but also because it can provide a steady flow of targeted visitors.
Take for example SEO (search engine optimization), it allows you to generate daily targeted traffic to your affiliate website without paying a dime.
SEO is not the only source of free traffic that you can get; Social media websites can be as effective as SEO in some affiliate marketing niches.
I want to show you in this article how you can use Twitter to drive traffic to your affiliate website and to make the most out of every visitor coming your way from Twitter.
Setting up Your Twitter Account
Twitter is free to join so you will not have any problems creating an account in there. Just head over to their registration page and create your Twitter account.
However there are few tips you should follow when setting up your Twitter account:
1. Add your real picture
2. Add your real name or brand name
3. Constantly post informational tweets
When you put your real picture in your account, you will achieve a much better click-though ratio for any links in your tweets.
Because there are so many fake and bots account on Twitter, you need to show anyone visiting your account that you are a real person.
People will follow and interact more with real people than with bots.
Some people choose to create their Twitter accounts under their brand name while others prefer to put in their real name.
Both of those options are great and will show that you are a real person.
But creating your Twitter account under a niche keyword is not the best option (although it can work in some rare cases).
Constantly posting tweets has many advantages:
• People will follow your account to follow-up with what you say
• You will appear more on Twitter’s search results for any keyword in your tweet
But try to post no more than 5 tweets a day to avoid any bans that Twitter may impose on your account.
Don’t put links in all of your tweets; instead try to provide value by posting tips in your niche.
People love these kinds of tweets because they can learn new things, and that could increase the trust level you have with your followers.
Building your List on Twitter
List building is a very good way to sell your affiliate products and to build a great business asset.
When you start collecting subscribers’ emails in your list, you can sell to them multiple affiliate products over the years.
Listing building is a subset of email marketing which is used by top affiliates to make 5 and 6 figure income.
Twitter can be used to do list building for any niche, but before you start running an email marketing campaign on Twitter, you need to have these few things setup first:
1. Autoresponder service
2. Squeeze page
3. Newsletter content
Autoresponders are professional services offered by companies like GetResponse and Aweber, they will handle every aspect of email marketing for you.
They will make sure your emails get delivered to the inbox of your subscribers (not the spam box), and they will manage your newsletters and send them out in the schedule that you set.
Squeeze pages are pages that entice people to sign up to your list and to give you their best email so you can communicate with them further.
This is an example of a good squeeze page (which is also called landing page btw):
On your squeeze page you should offer something free that get delivered to anyone who subscribe to your list.
This could be a free PDF guide or a tool if you can afford giving out one.
Newsletters are very important in email marketing; they are email messages that provide some kind of value (in shape of tips or announcements).
Newsletters help keep your list engaged and they are used to build and increase the level of trust between you and your subscribers.
After about 2 or 3 weeks of sending newsletters you can start promoting your affiliate products to your list.
Once you have created your squeeze page and setup your newsletters inside your autoresponder’s dashboard, then you can add the link of this squeeze page in your tweet.
People searching Twitter for a keyword which you included in your tweet, will find your tweet which contains a link to your squeeze page.
They then could find the content you are offering on your squeeze page to be helpful to them and this will entice them to provide you with their emails.
Directly Selling your Affiliate Products on Twitter
Another way to use Twitter in your affiliate marketing business is to post a tweet that contains your affiliate link.
This technique is better applied if you have a good number of followers that trust you.
Posting your affiliate links when you have no followers will not yield a great affiliate sales numbers.
That’s because people won’t just decide to buy using your affiliate link when they don’t know who you are and certainly not after reading a 140 character tweet.
Think of your Twitter account as your mini website; you should focus on building a trust and increasing the number of followers first before directly selling your affiliate products there.
Using social media is a great way to increase your affiliate sales, but you need to understand the social media website you are using.
Spend some time on Twitter to get a feel of how it works and try to learn various techniques that people use to increase their followers numbers.
