How to Open a Shopify Store
The first thing you wanna do is figure out what you will be selling. This should be done prior to setting up your storefront.
Digital goods like prints or calendars, crafted items you make yourself, resell manufactured products like apparel or footwear, whatever you decide, keep in mind that the niche you pick can make your break your store, meaning it can be the difference between zero sales and six figures.
Think wisely and pick a niche that works for you.
Once you know what you will be selling, visit Shopify to set up your store.

CHOOSING A DOMAIN NAME
Choosing a domain name can be one of the most fun, but most difficult parts of this whole set up. There are a ton of names you can select for your brand. Which one will it be? Personally, I’ve agonized for days over picking THE PERFECT domain name.
To help me decide I compile a list of my favorite words and a list of words relevant to my store. I mix and mash the words together until I come up with a name that I like and will suit my store.
TIP: There are domain name generators on the web that can help you narrow your selection. We like this one by Name Mesh.
Once you select your domain name, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND you pick the .com version. The .com domain name has the strongest presence, compared to .biz, .net, .clothing, etc. Once you’ve conquered this step, we move on to setting up your Payment Methods.
SETTING UP YOUR PAYMENT METHODS
Your payment method is how you will get paid. This is pretty important so you’ll wanna knock this out now. You get to Payment Methods by going to Shopify Admin Dashboard>Settings>Payments
You’ll see a few different options including Paypal, Shopify payments, Amazon payments, etc. The payments that are crucial in setting up is PayPal and Shopify payments.
For Paypal, just input your PayPal email address to activate. For Shopify payments, you’ll go through a short questionnaire to get set up with the service. Feel free to select additional payment methods if you so desire.
SETTING UP SHIPPING METHODS
In the Shipping Methods section, you’ll set your shipping rates for U.S. and International shipping. This section can be completed in a snap and will take you less than 5 minutes to complete.
PICK A THEME
You’ll find a ton of Shopify themes floating around the web. We recommend you select a theme for the Shopify Theme Store. These themes have been tested by Shopify staff and they only accept the best of the best from theme developers.
That means high quality themes and less glitches than other themes outside the Theme Store. To get to the theme store, go to: Shopify Admin Dashboard>Online Store>Themes>Visit Theme Store (in upper righthand corner). Browse the plethora of gorgeous themes and select one that suits your store.
There are both FREE and PAID themes available.
Some important pages to add are About Me, Contact Us, and FAQ. Some other examples of pages are Track my Order, Our Story, or Size Chart. To add a page, visit Shopify Admin Dashboard>Online Store>Pages
Click Add Page (shown below) and add your page information. Click Save.
ADD YOUR PRODUCTS
Head over to the Products section to add your store products. That’s it! If your product belongs to a category, go to Collections to set up. For example, if you are selling women’s footwear and are categorizing shoes according to style, some Collection names might be Boots, Sandals, Flats, etc.
When you add the product, you’ll have the Collection name visible so you can add products to the appropriate collection.
There are some additional areas you should check out in the Dashboard including Taxes, Pages, Apps, etc.
You’re all set! What will you be selling?
