Let’s kick things off! September was a fun month. My son is in Pre-K and in behavior therapy so, it’s like a full school day (Pre-K alone is about half a day). This gave me more time to work on the blog (yay!).
I experimented with several different strategies and I’ll share with you what I’ve been up to!
I pin around 70-100 pins daily. It only takes me an hour a week (I do it on Mondays) to set my schedule for the whole week. It’s pretty awesome!
Tips for Tailwind: Don’t know why I’m just realizing that Tailwind has a Firefox extension (what!).
What that means? I can browse my favorite blogs, click the extension and schedule to Tailwind right from that blog. It’s such a time savings!
I usually pin 90% my pins and 10% others’ pins. I’m trying to change this up to be around 50/50 and eventually 20/80 (majority other pins). I keep hearing that Pinterest rewards pinning other pins so I’m going to try it out and see how it works out.
Also using the Twitter and Facebook functions on Tailwind to have auto-shares and tweets sent every time an auto-pin goes out!
USING QUORA MORE: You’ve probably read my posts about using Quora. I’ve found it to be an incredible traffic driver.
Every time I publish a post I try to post to Quora 1o times! It sounds like a lot, but it only takes about an hour. I don’t hit this target every time though.
In September, I tried really hard and I ended up getting over 21,000 answer views and up to 7,000 profile views! My highest stats yet. I’m going to continue this course for October and hopefully hit 50K answer views and 20K profile views. Here’s hoping!
USING FACEBOOK GROUPS MORE
So…I’m in a ton of Facebook Groups! When I say a lot, I mean a lot, like…
Yes, 75. I love it! I made a list and was so surprised that I belonged to so many groups. Not 75 groups total, just 75 blogger/entrepreneur groups. I’m in probably 100 total.
I probably use 1/8th of those groups on a regular basis.
Wanna know which ones?
I made the list, just for YOU! Scroll to the end of this post to scoop up my list of 75 Facebook groups for bloggers and entrepreneurs.
These groups are great. I use them for engagement, to get the inside scoop on the latest blogging and social media news, networking, and more. Being a part of groups on Facebook is FUN! You get to interact with your peers, share your blog, and learn a ton! It’s amazing.
FOCUSING ON TWITTER
I made it my goal for months now, to boost my Twitter. I really wanted to give it some good attention but it always fell to the back burner. Not anymore!
I tried out 2 tools in September:
Crowdfire is used for Instagram and Twitter.
For Twitter, after you set up your Crowdfire account, you get daily prescriptions on recommended actions to optimize your Twitter account. This includes things like following certain people, acknowledging retweets, unfollowing, etc. I use the free version but there is a paid version as well.
Social Quant is simliar to Crowdfire but they do it all for you! There’s a 14 day trial that I’m currently on, then it’s paid after that.

What didn’t work
Posting to Instagram manually did not work:(
My goal is to post at least 3 times a day to Instagram. Unfortunately my schedule just does not allow that.
I know what you’re thinking..how I don’t have time to post 3 little Insta posts. Well, each post requires a custom graphic that I create myself, along with determining what article I will be sharing.
My schedule is jam packed: I manage an Instagram account for a client, run my online store biz, write this blog, and I’m a mom!
I want to try to automate Instagram if I can or map out a better schedule. One of my top priorities for October.
Also, wanna work on getting more subscribers. We have over 3,000 newsletter subscribers which is awesome but the pace has slowed quite a bit compared to early months. I will be tackling this in October too!
Social Media Stats
- Facebook–UNSUCCESSFUL-Start 502 likes/End 837 likes (goal was 1000 likes)
- Instagram–UNSUCCESSFUL-Start 3476/End 3543 (goal was 3800)
- Pinterest–UNSUCCESSFUL-Start 3600/End 4000 (goal was 5000, yikes)
- Twitter-SUCCESSFUL-Start 162/End 638 (goal was 500)
- Google Plus-NO GOAL-Start 18/End 112
Yikes, is all I can say.
I only met 1 of my social media goals. Boo.
I’m fine with Facebook and Instagram. I’m on a nice pace with Facebook and I think I can hit 1000 likes by next month.
Instagram was completely ignored. Poor Instagram. It’s such a pity too because I can easily boost it by thousands with a little work but I completely focused on Twitter.
I’m going to try to balance things out a bit more so I can have some nice growth across all social channels. I will continue on with my current Twitter strategy.
Pinterest is a total disappointment but I’m not beating myself up over it too much (did I mention I got banned for 4 days last month? Read more about it below).

August 2016 Income Report [292 shares]
Google Analytics shows I received 16,448 page views. Way down from last month (21K) but I had a few hiccups happen in September including being Pinterest banned (my #1 traffic driver) and no Google Analytics tracking for 5 days 🙁
First, the Pinterest ban. I noticed on a Thursday that my traffic was down. It wasn’t down considerably but little did I know, this was the first day of the ban. On Friday, I got a message from a Facebook group friend saying one of my pins was showing as spam and they were unable to pin. I checked the pin and sure enough, that was it.
I thought that because I used that pin pointing it to an affiliate link, that that was the issue. I removed the affiliate link and that was that. Friday evening comes and I’m checking stats again. WAY DOWN!
What the heck! Really, WTF! I check random pins on Pinterest and they are ALL NOT WORKING!
I immediately email Pinterest to see what the deal was. Unfortunately it was the Friday night before Labor Day. I didn’t hear back until Tuesday! Pinterest apologized to me for banning the blog on accident. There was no reason for the ban. It was an error.
Huge traffic tank and I’m still trying to recover. Bottom line and my advice to you: DIVERSIFY YOUR TRAFFIC!
