Dropshipping! It’s a hot topic nowadays. Dropshipping is pretty incredible because it allows you to get the benefit of being a store owner without the hassle and expense of actually carrying inventory.
It’s great because with no inventory, your costs are substantially less. You pay less for warehouse space, no packaging or mailers required, no shipping service or membership needed, and many more benefits.
So, if dropshipping is so hot, what’s the problem?
Well, it can be quite difficult to break into the dropshipping arena. Let me tell you why:
You have to be an incredible researcher and business person to try to find dropshippers in your industry, especially online, which is where a lot of ecommerce newbies turn.
Sure, there are guides from places like Doba or Salehoo. They publish lists of dropshippers but, as a startup, many prospective retailers can’t afford to pay hundreds or thousands upfront for a list of dropshipping companies that they will still have to vet, research, and negotiate with. It can be a big investment with little promise of return.
My Dropshipping Experience
I’ve been dropshipping for years. Check out these posts:
When I started my dropship business years ago, things were much different. It was so difficult to find the information I needed to get started.
So, what did I do? I did a lot of cold emailing. I found out a lot of useful information (and some not so useful info) and I also felt my way through things until I developed my own strategy.
Today, I will be sharing 12 dropship companies from various industries that you can use for your dropship store. Here we go:
Note, this is a fairly small list compared to all the industries that exist and all the dropshippers available. I have not worked with every company listed here so you will be in charge of doing your own vetting but at least you have a starting point.
I can say, for the company I did work with, Aliexpress, I had a great experience.
How Aliexpress Works
First, you sign up. Aliexpress is open to the public, so as a consumer you can make purchases. If you are doing a lot of volume buying (specifically, for dropshipping, or other business purposes), they may ask for a copy of your business license, resellers permit, etc. I went through this process with them a few months after I started volume buying.
Aliexpress is like a super mall. They offer products in just about every category you are looking for: kids apparel, pet, electronics, home and garden, etc. Think of them kind of as an international eBay or Amazon (since most of their sellers are based in China or overseas).
Once you are signed up, browse their products and select your favorites that you’d like to feature in your store. I recommend adding them to your Favorites (within your Aliexpress dashboard).
Next, you will want to contact the seller to ask if they dropship. Some product listings will highlight if a product is dropship or not, but not every product will show this. You can even go to the search bar and type “dropship” or “dropshipping” to see what results come up.
Once you confirm they will dropship then start making orders.
I always added a dropship note in the Comments section during the checkout process, just to be safe. An extra reminder never hurts!
After the seller ships the product to your customer, you will retrieve the tracking information from your account dashboard and you can provide it to the buyer.
- Always select ePacket shipping (or faster, like UPS, USPS, DHL, etc.) . Epacket shipping takes 5-15 days (as advertised on Aliexpress). Express shipping, from carriers shown above, usually takes 3-5 days.
- When you type your dropship note in the Comments section during checkout, make sure to include that you DO NOT WANT an invoice, the sellers store information, or any sort of payment info in the package. Can you imagine how confusing it would be if you were the customer and received your order with a seller’s name that wasn’t the retailer you bought from and at a different price?
- Don’t forget to ‘Favorite’ the products you will be carrying (so you can go back and easily find them).
That wraps it up. I hope you enjoyed reading this list of 12 dropshippers. Good luck friends!
