Blog promotion is super important folks. You can spend hours, days, weeks creating the perfect information-rich article for your blog but without promoting it, who is going to see it? You’ve probably heard of the formula: 20% content creation/80% promotion. It’s totally true!
I’m going to share some of my personal secrets for promoting your blog and blog posts, along with tips for getting hundreds or thousands of shares on social media!
Let’s get started!
CRAFTING YOUR BLOG PROMOTION STRATEGY
To start, you want to think about your audience.
Who are they?
Where do they hang out? Facebook, Pinterest, Bloglovin, etc.?
Aim for about a 50/50 split of you promoting and others promoting your content.
Once you’ve tackled this, the next step is to start promoting! You will develop a blog promo strategy and implement it for every single blog post.
Consistency is key here.
How You Promote
- Post your content to your social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Stumbleupon, etc. and DO THIS FOR EVERY BLOG POST
- Share with your subscribers in your newsletter
- Post via social bookmarking sites like Digg and Reddit
- Submit to directories. Some of my favorite directory sharing articles to get you started: 23 Blog Directories to Submit Your Blog To and 131+ Manually Verified Free Blog Directories to Submit Your Blog
How You Get Others to Promote
To get others to promote YOUR content, you have to network. The easiest way is to join groups and forums. Check out some of my tips below:
- Join Facebook groups and post your blog posts (look at share for share groups)

- Get involved in Pinterest group boards. Check my board out below and to join, shoot me an email!
- Collaborate in Instagram group Direct Messages
- Join KIK groups on Instagram
- If you feature a blogger in your post, reach out to them to let them know and don’t be afraid to ask for some social media love
Paid promotion can definitely get you results. If you have working capital available upfront to invest in ads, you can increase your blog exposure rather quickly. Or, if your blog earnings exceed your ad budget, it might make sense to do paid promotion, especially if you are selling a product like an e-book, digital download, or course.
Some paid promotion options:
- Facebook Ads
- Promoted Pins on Pinterest
- Google Ads
- Sponsored Posts with other bloggers
I’ve tried a few of these methods with this blog and with my store. I have experience with Outbrain, Facebook Ads, and Promoted pins.
I get the best results with Outbain. The minimum budget at the time I worked with them was $50/week with best results seen after 3 weeks of running ads. In about a week I had almost triple the traffic. I spent about $80 total. This was just a little experiment but I plan to continue with Outbrain once my blog earnings start ramping up.
Facebook Ads were so-so. I’m not a Facebook Ad expert so I may not have optimized everything to its fullest but I did see results, in terms of likes and engagement on my page. Promoted Pins gave similar results.
There are agencies that specialize in social media advertising. They tend to be more pricey (four figures monthly, budget included). If you have the budget for them, they may be a good option. If you’ve gone that route, please share your results with us in comments (at the end of this post).
MY PERSONAL STRATEGY
I’m going to take you through my routine to give you an idea about what I do to spread the word about my latest posts.
After I hit publish, I follow these steps:
- Head to Facebook and look up my share for share groups to share my latest post. I’m in this group, this one, this one, and this one. (I’m actually in more groups but I share to these ones primarily)
- Submit my link to Digg
- Submit to Blog Engage
- Submit to Stumbleupon
- Pin 1-2 images from the post to Pinterest AND add them to Tailwind and Boardbooster queues
- Answer a minimum of 10 questions on Quora and link my blog post in my answer
That’s about it. I’m new to newsletters so although I have sent a few newsletters out to my subscribers, I haven’t regularly integrated sharing my newest blog posts in those newsletters yet (I sent about 3-4 newsletters out per month).
I’m also bad about adding my latest posts to directories. I think it’s super amazing to do, but my current strategy above gets me a couple hundred shares and lots of clicks within a week or so.
I also run a store on the side, so between that and running this blog, I do a lot of juggling.
It literally takes me about 15-20 minutes to do the promo strategy above. Not long at all. As I find more tips to promotion, I’ll be adding them to this post.
That’s all friends.
What’s your blog promotion strategy?
