Blogging is a growing hobby business that is taking the world by storm. If you asked me 5 years ago if I would be blogging ANYTIME in the future, my answe would have been flat out NO! I dove into blogging in May 2016. I was leaving a bustling Ecommerce business (sold!) and ready for a change.
I turned to Pinterest for inspiration and saw so many pins about blogging. I was really surprised. I did more research over the coming weeks and decided to start blogging. I wanted to share my experience and I was excited at the thought of actually making money blogging.
So, here I am 9 months later, on target to hit my first $2,000 month blogging!
Heres what I do!
18 Tips to Start Making Money Blogging Today
Tip 1.) Get Google Adsense
Ok, it doesn’t have to be Adsense but it should be some ad network that serves ads on your site. This is easy money folks. I hear bloggers say they don’t like the look of ads on blogs. Neither do I. Neither do most people, I assume, but is it going to be so hated that viewers don’t go to your blog?
I don’t think so, provided they aren’t obnoxious and ALL over your site. Ads in a few key places are just fine in my opinion.
Ads are great because it’s daily income and you literally set it and forget it!
I started by earning a few cents per day and now I earn $7-$10 daily with some $20 days mixed in throughout the month. Now, my results might not be the same as yours but, regardless, ads are s great way to earn regular recurring passive income. Some other networks worth mentioning:
Tip 2.) Dive into Sponsored Posts
Sponsored posts are posts that you get paid for! So basically, you write an article about a product or service review, feature, or tutorial and the company or the company’s network pays you to do so.
These are pretty easy but I wouldn’t recommend doing a TON of these posts, as you could lose the genuineness of your blog. You’d hate to see your readers think of your blog as salesy or just in it for the money.

Tip 3.) Focus on traffic
Ok, so this tip is an indirect way of earning eith your blog. When it comes to the rates you can command, the number of opportunities you get offered, the number of products you sell, and more, it comes down to traffic.
Think about it. If you’re a brand and want to work with a blogger to promote your latest product and given these 2 bloggers:
2,000 pageviews monthly/1K followers combined/125 Subscribers
20,000 pageviews monthly/10K followers combined/2,500 subscribers
Which one would you choose?
Traffic is definitely super crucial to your blog. You wanna have it always on your mind and promote every single little post you publish.

Tip 4.) Build up your email list
Focusing on your list is super important. Sometimes I open a product up only to my list and the response I get is flabbergasting, in a good way.
Tip 5.) Diversify your income streams
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If you have 4 income streams and one fails, guess what? You still have 3 remaining to rely on.
Tip 6.) Join affiliate networks
Affiliste marketing is great for income. Networks makes it even easier to earn money as a blogger. Join the network, pick offers, promote them and get paid on successful sale.
There are a ton of networks out there. These are the ones I’m in:
Tip 7.) Team up with other bloggers
Work with other bloggers in round ups, interviews, and collaborative efforts to make money.
- Do an interview to promote a blogger course or ebook
- Cross promote you e-product with another blogger
- Do a joint webinar
Tip 8.) Create a service
What are you good at? Virtual assisting, writing, proofreading, etc. Whatever your skill may be, get paid for it! Add a “Hire Me” page on your blog and start working with clients.
Be proactive and seek out jobs. Apply to be a freelancer on Upwork, mind opportunities on Craigslist or Warriors Wanted for Hire.
Some additional ideas:
- Graphic design: logos, email signatures, ad design, Facebook covers, Pinterest pins, etc.
- Virtual assisting: answering emails, creating newsletters, making calls to leads, posting to social media
- Social media manager: creating social media campaigns, getting followers for clients, social media design, etc.
- Consulting: e-commerce consulting, social media consulting, website consulting
Tip 9.) Teach courses
Are you skilled in one or more key areas? Teach a class about it! Hop onto Udemy or Teachable and create a course. Teaching e-courses is a great way to supplement your income and referencing your blog can bring traffic back to your site. Win-win.
Tip 10.) Try out CPA marketing
CPA marketing is affiliate marketing with a cool twist. Affiliate marketing pays out per sale and CPA marketing pays out per sale AND per lead! This means you don’t have to necessarily make a sale or convince a customer to buy, in order to get a payout.
A lead can be an email registration, a zip code submission, a Facebook like, a newsletter signup, etc. Some leads pay as high as $20 each!
Some networks of interest:
Tip 11.) Get paid to blog for Pay U 2 Blog
This network pays you around $5 or so per blog post. It’s super easy and when I tried it out, I got my first assignment within a week of signup! They’ve been in business for 10+ years so they are the real deal. A great way to supplement your blog income.
Tip 12.) Insert affiliate links everywhere
Back to affiliate marketing. I keep circling back to it because it really is a top income earner for bloggers. I mean, you can earn up to $50,000 per month from affiliate marketing alone, if you do it wisely and I’ll show you how!
Pro Tip: Wanna learn how to earn five figures per month from affiliate marketing? Find out how
When it comes to affiliate marketing, post them in more places than just your blog post. Add banners to your sidebar. Post to social media, add them to your newsletter, add them to your signature in forum posts, etc. The sky’s the limit. You can even post links to Pinterest now. Test it out and watch your income grow!
Tip 13.) Network to find opportunities
Do you know how I found my first sponsored post opportunity?? On Facebook. Yes, Facebook. One of the groups I’m in posted an opportunity and I applied. Guess what? I got not 1 but 2 offers from the brand!
I highly recommend you check out my huge list of Facebook groups that I’m in and use regularly to make friends, network, learn, make money, become a better blogger, and more.
Tip 14.) Be engaging
Talk to your readers. The hardest part about blogging is developing a loyal readership that trusts you. There are so many scammers out there and so many bloggers that don’t care about their audience. Show your readers that you care. Respond to each comment thoughtfully. Offer to help. Provide guidance and assistance. Make friends. Reach out on social media. Like or heart their comment. These are all easy things to do that show that you care and help to create a strong bond.
Your readers are gold. Treat them as such. When it’s time to launch your course or talk about your newest service, a loyal audience will get you more sales and more clients than an audience that’s not.
Tip 15.) Get social
Don’t forget about social media. Make sure you are posting often and don’t forget to talk about your services, courses, affiliate marketing products, and more.
Pro Tip: Set up an easy editorial calendar for social media so you can plan out your posts, making sure that not too many salesy posts are posted close to each other.
Tip 16.) Ask for donations
Don’t be afraid to do this one. I don’t have this on my blog yet but I will. It’s as simple as adding a PayPal button on your homepage asking readers to buy you coffee. Big bloggers, like Pauline from TwelveSkip do this.
Tip 17.) Add a Resources page
Make sure you have a Resources page on your blog. This is a page that shows all the products and tools you use to manage your blog. This page can also include recommendations or products you love. The key is to make sure the products shown have affiliate links. I talk to bloggers all the time who tell me their Resources page is their moneymaker, earning them the most income each month. Don’t miss out on this.
Tip 18.) Have a good attitude. Have fun
This will show in your writing. Write passionately, be yourself, be genuine. These are all things that will help contribute to developing a loyal readership, getting more traffic, and making more money. It might sound cheesy, but it is totally the truth.
There you have it my friend. I hope you enjoyed reading these tips. Do you have a tip that didn’t make the list? Share it down below. We’d love to hear from you! Til next time.
Note: This post contains affiliate links. This means that I may receive a small commission (at no cost to you) if you subscribe or purchase something through the links provided. You will never see me post a link to a product or service that I don’t use myself or truly love! (Learn more here)
