12 TRICKS TO TRIPLE BLOG TRAFFIC
Note: This post contains affiliate links. This means that I may receive a small commission (at no cost to you) if you subscribe or purchase something through the links provided. You will never see me post a link to a product or service that I don’t use myself or truly love! (Learn more here)
So, what’s the big deal with getting more blog traffic anyway? I’ll tell you what the deal is:
#2: More pageviews=more people viewing your blog, which means you are getting your message across to more readers
#3: The more traffic, the more pageviews=the more clicks to your links (more money in your pocket)!
Now, that you’re sold, what’s the secret sauce?
Well, there are a combination of things you can do to increase your traffic. Building traffic can be a slow process. Many of my favorite bloggers have taken years to build to hundreds of thousands of pageviews monthly. This little blog is less than 3 months old. I certainly HOPE it doesn’t take that long to achieve six digit pageviews!
A glimmer of hope: I’ve been seeing more and more stories of brand new blogs achieving six-figure pageviews in their second, third, and fourth month of blogging! Like Chasing Foxes: How We Got Over 150,000 Pageviews in Our Second Month of Blogging

If these awesome blogs can do it, so can we, right? RIGHT! Here we go:
TIP 1: WRITE SUPER LONG POSTS
I have seen this tip posted in many, many articles I have read about building traffic. The post on this blog range from around 400-1500 words with the average post around 600-800 words. Yoast SEO tells me that I want to aim for a minimum of 300 words, which I can hit very easily, however Google loves LONG, LONG articles. How long, you ask? A minimum of 1000 words but aim for 2000-3000 words if you want to put the icing on top!
Wow, long, right? You can totally hit that goal. One of the things I’ll be doing is going through each of my posts (something I do regularly anyway) and lengthening them!
It’ll be a long, arduous task, but the search engine gods will be pleased and reward my blog for doing so (I’m hoping)! How can you lengthen your posts? Here are some tips:
- Break down your posts into sections with subheadings. Try to write at least 3-5 paragraphs (if not more) per subheading.
- Use quotes
- Insert graphs, photo, infographics, and other graphic material (and talk about them in your post)
- Tell stories
- Use lots of examples
- Make several points in your article instead of 1 or 2
- Link internally (to other posts on your blog)
- Link externally (to experts, articles, or other links relevant to your writing)
Test this out (longer post writing) for a month and report back! I’d love to learn how your numbers changed. Don’t forget to take before and after screenshots of your stats, traffic, Alexa rank, etc. so you can measure your progress. I’ll remember to do the same and write about it in the near future! Onto tip 2.
TIP 2: GUEST POST
Argh, guest posting. Yes, guest posting folks. A lot of people try to steer away from them but posting on huge authority sites can do wonders for your traffic. Some sites will even pay you! Many blogs accept guest writers (freelancers) at a rate of $50-$200 per article, no joke!
To find guest post opportunities, search these terms in Google:write for, write for us, guest post, guest posting, guest post “niche”
Some awesome guest post opportunities you won’t wanna miss:
- Huffington Post
- Ezine Articles
- Love to Know
Is guest posting too much for you to add to your plate? Hire out for it! You can hire freelancers for as little as $5/article. Some will even include researching and pitching the article to authority sites! Some freelance sites I’ve worked with before: Upwork, Freelancer, Outsource
TIP 3: SYNDICATE
Syndicate your content. This means submitting your post across various network for more exposure. You can hire out for this task as well. One of the things I did in my second month of blogging was hire a freelancer to submit my blog to a list of 800+ directories. It’s a simple task but I just didn’t have the time to do it.
Some content syndication sites:
- Ezine Articles
You can even do paid syndication. Check out this article from Quicksprout: The Complete Guide to Building your Blog Audience
TIP 4: BE SOCIAL WITH IT
The key to traffic is 20% content creation/80% promotion. As soon as you hit Publish you should dive into your promotion strategy. Social media can help you out with that a TON! Here are my favorite social sharing platforms:
Part of my strategy also involves participating in share for share posts that are hosted by the Facebook groups I’m a part of. How it works? The FB group admin will start a thread for group members who want to have their post shared and give a share in return, like a Stumbleupon share for Stumbleupon share, for example. I’m in several groups that off this, including my own group: Pinning Ain’t Easy.

TIP 5: ADD MORE CONTENT
When I first launched Drink Coffee & Prosper I wanted to write 1 post per day. As a new blog I wanted to put up a lot of quality content quickly so readers would hang around a while and check out more posts. It didn’t quite work out that way.
I did end up writing 4-6 posts weekly for the first several weeks but that tapered off. I’m trying to ramp up to average 1 post per day. It’s a really aggressive strategy but Google rewards sites that post new content often.
This can mean adding a new post, adding photos, switching out your homepage slider, updating your About Me page.Try this out!
TIP 6: BECOME AN EXPERT
Become an expert on Quora or Yahoo Answers. It makes a difference, really. Whenever I answer questions on Quora, I notice a difference in my traffic stats.
How I do it? After creatiing a bio in Quora, I go to the Search bar and type in topics I’m knowledgeable about: blogging, affiliate marketing, work from home, small business, etc.
Then, I pick questions that haven’t been answered or have few answers and I answer away. I make sure before I submit the answer, that I have at least 1 link to my blog, either in the body of the answer or in my signature, and that’s it!
I see longstanding experts who receive 40K views monthly on their Quora answers. That’s big traffic that could lead back to your site. Don’t miss this opportunity.
TIP 7: AUTOMATE
Automating your blog makes life so much easier. Take it from me! You can shave hours off your workweek just by putting a few automation tools in place. My favorites:
- IFTTT: I’ve written about IFTTT so many times. It’s super awesome and FREE! Create recipes that will auto-complete tasks for you. A must have!
- Virtual assistant: Check out 6 Reasons Why a Virtual Assistant will Save Your Blog
- Buffer or Hootsuite: Check out Buffer or Hootsuite to automate social sharing.
- Bring on writers: You can hire writers or take on guest posters to get fresh content for your blog. Recruit using your own blog, social media, or hire through sites like Upwork.
- Email marketing: Set up a campaign using ConvertKit or SendinBlue
TIP 8: PINTEREST
Pinterest is a HUGE TRAFFIC DRIVER.
Here are some other tips I recommend:
- Organize your boards according to popularity. Popular boards appear first followed by less popular boards.
- Theme it! Create a theme for your account and have your board covers follow suit. Some examples:
- Pinterest group boards: find them with PINGROUPIE
- Be active
- Create at least 10 boards with at least 10 pins
- Create vertical pinnable images within your blog posts (a minimum of 2)
- Add Pin It buttons to your posts to promote social sharing
TIP 9: PAID ADS
You can always explore paid ads like Google Adwords, Facebook ads, Outbrain, etc.
TIP 10: SEO
We can’t forget SEO. Some WordPress plugins to help you out:
- All in One SEO Pack
- Yoast SEO

TIP 11: READ OTHER BLOGGERS’ WORK
Interact with other bloggers on their blog. Read and read and read and COMMENT! Helpful comments, a few sentences long that show you actually read the post and did not skim through. Do this at least 5X daily and you’ll see a difference in your numbers, especially Alexa rank.
